Peer Interview

Description for Peer Interview:
From the initial draft to the final product my writing for the Peer Interview Paper changed by having more information about the topic I chose to further write about. I remember this being one of the many interview sessions we had in class where our goal was to ask more questions to our classmate. This was very helpful because I had more information about the topic and I wrote down a lot of quotes. The reason why I wrote down a lot of quotes was so I can have a wide range of quotes to choose from when writing the Peer Interview Paper. Since the topic I chose was about volleyball I had to structure my paper in a way where it only surrounds this topic and that I don’t leave out any important information that my classmate said or when I am explaining the sport. I navigated this assignment by forming a list of questions to ask my classmate then going home that same night choosing the question I would like to know more about and that has the most information. From there I was able to eliminate the other questions that didn’t have enough information to support it. Doing this in a way helped me organize the topic. I believe these were the first steps I took that helped me create a good Peer Interview Paper. I was able to push myself to finish this assignment by using all the information I gathered and connecting everything together. At the end I read through everything to see if it all makes sense. This assignment also wasn’t hard, I actually ended up having fun creating it because of how I formatted the paper. I added quotes and images at the side of the paper to make it sound and look more interesting.

Serves Up!
That’s right, being on a volleyball court is not an easy job, especially when you are one of the captains on the team. Responsibility plays a big role when playing on the court. However, this can create a lot of pressure on the individual. “Many times I would have to pick up the slack from another team member on the court when they are not playing well.” Because of Cynthia Alvarez ‘s love for volleyball that she developed through the years of playing the sport, it helped teach her life lessons like patience and diligence. It also taught her that no matter what the situation is in volleyball you are able to overcome it as a team.
“Nothing inspired me to play volleyball I was just influenced by my friends to join because I saw all of them joining. I assumed it would be better to join a sport with my friends instead of doing nothing at all or joining something that I wasn’t really interested in.” Little did Cynthia know she would be the best player on her team, eventually becoming one of the captains. Therefore junior year of high school was the most important year for her. In volleyball there are six players on the team which means each of them have a set position to play. The name of these positions are right side hitter, middle blocker, setter, outside hitter, middle blocker/libero, and another setter. Out of all these positions in volleyball Cynthia’s favorite position to play is the outside hitter (receiver) and the middle blocker (who can also spike).
“The easiest thing to do in volleyball is receiving because you just have to make sure that after the opposing side serves the ball you are in ‘ready position’ to receive the ball and bumping it to one of your fellow teammates. The other thing is, honestly being a bench warmer. I know it sounds mean but it’s true because over twenty girls are on the team, six of those girls are on the court which means the rest are sitting back watching us play.” This answer led up to asking what’s the most difficult thing for Cynthia to do in volleyball. “Setting is the most difficult thing because you have to set the ball high enough for the spiker to hit it over the net, if you set the ball too low then the ball wouldn’t make it over the net and that will make the opposing team get a point. It’s basically you’re either setting up the person for success or failure.”
When playing a sport nervousness can be a big factor. This can determine if the person will play good or not. Some people try to focus more on the game if they have it or they let the nervousness eat them up and distract them from what needs to be done. Cynthia is the type of person to get very nervous, however with the help of her friends, she pushes it past her and focuses on the game. “Yes I get very nervous every time my team and I have to play a game. Since we travel to different schools to play our volleyball games there are many people I know personally that comes along to support us and other people from the opposing teams come to watch the game. Having so many different eyes on me gives me this unsettling feeling I cant really shake off and puts more pressure on me as a player to do well. I don’t want to mess up and embarrass myself in front of everyone. Luckily I have my friends to calm me down and reassuring me the game will be fine and that they have my back.”
Do you like playing indoor or outdoor volleyball?
“I like playing indoor volleyball more than outdoor volleyball. Outdoor volleyball is horrible, I remember one hot summer day I went to a volleyball court with my friends. The volleyball court wasn’t what I usually play on since it had sand on the floor but I was excited to try something new. That was the worst day because after playing the game I ended up being sweaty and sand was in places it wasn’t suppose to be. I assumed playing volleyball in the sand was going to be easy and fun because that’s what it looked like on t.v but I was clearly wrong. The sand also takes up most of your energy, not really having enough to hit the ball fully over the net.”
What is your favorite volleyball team and why?
“My favorite volleyball team is South Korea and Japan because they are the best team on the national level.”
Who is your favorite player on your favorite volleyball team?
“My favorite player is number 10 on the South Korean team her name is Kim Yeon-kyeong. She is also why I chose number 10 as my volleyball jersey number.”
